LOS ANGELES — The College of the Canyons men’s 4×100 and 4x400m relay teams sprinted to a pair of impressive victories to lead the Cougars at last weekend’s Occidental College Distance Carnival.
In the 4x100m event it was the combination of Leo Lambert III, Slade Cavallaro, Blake Beeler and Calel Christian clocking a time of 42.43 to top a field of six schools that included four-year programs CSU, San Marcos and CSU, Bakersfield.
Later, it was Christian, Beeler, Lambert and Cavallaro with a time of 3:19.57 to win the 4x400m event, besting a field that included CSU, Bakersfield, Whittier College and Biola University.
Lambert added to his day with a ninth-place finish in the 100m at a time of 11.07. Cavallaro took ninth in the 400m at a pace of 50.59.
Also earning a top-10 finish for the Cougars’ men’s program was Marcel Sylvester with a leap a 1.83m in the high jump.
Takaira Beard was the top finisher for the COC women’s squad with a fifth-place leap of 1.53m in the high jump.
Beard also placed 14th in the long jump at 4.91m.

Canyons will next compete at the annual Bakersfield College Relays on Saturday, March 17.
