California State University, Northridge’s Friends of the Oviatt Library will host a luncheon, discussion and book signing with Harry Turtledove — an award-winning historical fiction, science fiction and fantasy author — on Friday, April 20, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The event, “Writing Alternate History Novels in the Age of Alternative Facts,” will take place at the Orange Grove Bistro, located near the corner of Zelzah Avenue and Nordhoff Street. During the luncheon, Turtledove will discuss his experience writing alternate history novels. The public is invited to attend the event.

“We at CSUN are privileged to have one of our preeminent local authors come to campus,” said Mark Stover, dean of the Delmar T. Oviatt Library.

Turtledove is best known for his alternate history books “The War That Came Early” and the series “World War” and “Hot War.” He was honored with numerous Sidewise Awards for Alternate History for his works in the “World War” series, “The Two Georges,” “Must and Shall,” “How Few Remain” and “Ruled Britannia.” Turtledove holds a doctorate in Byzantine history from UCLA and is married to novelist Laura Frankos.

“Harry Turtledove’s talk, which juxtaposes his unique genre of writing with one of the most pressing problems of our day, is sure to be provocative and compelling,” said Stover.

The price of the event is $20 per person. Free parking is available for attendees in the G1 parking lot near the corner of Zelzah Avenue and Nordhoff Street. Turtledove’s books will be available for purchase at the event.
