Santa Clarita Valley International, a free public charter school serving grades TK through 12, will host its annual “Expresstival” event, a celebration of student creativity, from 2:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Friday, April 27 at the school’s campus at 28060 Hasley Canyon Road in Castaic. This family-friendly event is free and open to the public.
The event, which is SCVi’s take on the traditional open house, will feature an art exhibition, a young entrepreneur fair organized entirely by SCVi students, a talent show, and a Maker Alley featuring art and creative projects for the whole family. Each grade will present a booth showing off work from their academic year, and highlights from the school’s successful fourth- through eighth-grade production of Shrek: The Musical Jr. (along with a preview of the upcoming run of The Sound Of Music) will be performed at SCVi’s Shakespeare Theater.
“At SCVi, we celebrate the skills, talents, and passions that make our learners unique,” said Amber Raskin, CEO and co-founder of SCVi and iLEAD Schools. “The theme of this year’s festival – ‘Express Yourself’ – couldn’t be a better fit for this fun, engaging event, and we’re so excited to welcome the Santa Clarita community to our campus for what’s sure to be an inspirational afternoon.”
SCVi, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, offers a project- and inquiry-based approach to learning and equips students with the critical thinking, problem-solving, and entrepreneurial skills necessary to succeed in a 21st century world. It is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Schools, Western Association of Schools and Colleges, and is the only school in the Santa Clarita Valley certified to teach the International Baccalaureate curriculum. SCVi is also the founding school of iLEAD Schools, a network of 12 free public charter schools throughout California and the Midwest.
