The woman struck and killed by a Metrolink train in Saugus early Friday evening was still unidentified as of Monday morning, according to officials.

“Next of kin still has not been notified,” Inspector Rudy Milano of the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner – Coroner’s office said at 10 a.m.

Contrary to reports published elsewhere, notification of next of kin was still pending as of 5:30 p.m. Monday, so the Medical Examiner has not yet officially released the victim’s name, Lt. Larry Dietz told SCV News.

Metrolink Train 221 was northbound when it struck the woman near Railroad Avenue and Drayton Street at about 7 p.m. Friday.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene by responding L.A. County first responders.

In social media posts, several witnesses said the woman threw herself into the train’s path.

Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station officials said the woman may have been homeless. The Bridge to Home shelter is a block away from the tracks where the woman was killed.

Train 221 was delayed by the incident, so Metrolink provided bus transportation to the Santa Clarita Metrolink station, where passengers were able to pick up Train 227 to continue toward the Lancaster station Friday night.

The woman’s death remains under investigation, Lt. Mohrhoff at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station said Monday morning.

“Homicide may have the handle, or it could just be a Coroner’s case,” he said.
