There’s been a lot of construction in this area, including closures of lanes, sudden lane splits and the like. It is easy to imagine someone getting confused, especially at night. I very nearly had an accident yesterday when I was transitioning from the 14 to the north 5. I keep thinking that there must be a better way to go about this construction. Part of freeway safety is familiarity with the road. It seems as though there are several changes a week as the 5 passes thru SCV.
May this older couple from our community rest in peace. Condolences to family. Fully agree with the danger and randomness with mixed methods of ramp reroute and confusion of signage. Pure lack of professional safety oversight exists. Old days done differently with lights, flares and clear signs. When coming home at night it is a crap shoot to determine which ramps are open and where their exit begins night to night. There are often ramp exit marking orange signs left in place even when ramp closed.
Like a bad puzzle.
