SAN BERNARDINO – The JetHawks allowed 10 extra-base hits, and 19 hits overall, in a 12-2 rubber-game loss to the Inland Empire 66ers on Sunday afternoon at San Manuel Stadium.
The loss dropped Lancaster (22-22) back into a first-place tie with Inland Empire (22-22) in the South Division standings.
Starter Brandon Gold (3-3, pictured above) gave up two unearned runs in the third inning, and the game looked like a pitchers’ duel between him and 66ers starter Joe Gatto (5-2) until Jared Walsh hit a two-run home run in a three-run bottom of the fourth inning.
Lancaster answered with two runs in the top of the fifth. Max George put them on the board with an RBI-single, but after two runners were caught stealing, the club managed just one more unearned run.
Inland Empire responded with three runs in the fifth inning. A Jordan Zimmerman home run, and another Walsh two-run home run knocked Gold from the game after 4.2 innings pitched. He was charged with seven runs (five earned) on nine hits.
The 66ers added three runs in the seventh inning and another in the eighth. They totaled five doubles, two triples and three home runs in the game. Walsh, Zimmerman and Luis Rengifo all totaled four hits.
Lancaster begins a three-game series against Lake Elsinore at The Diamond on Tuesday. Rico Garcia (5-3) is scheduled to start against left-hander Adrian Morejon (2-3). First pitch is 6 p.m.
