The Los Angeles County Fire Department will conduct its annual live wildfire training exercises at Pitchess Detention Center-Wayside Honor Rancho in Castaic from June 4 through June 29.
The training will allow as many as 100 participating firefighters to practice their skills, reinforce emergency communications and improve risk-management decision-making.
During training hours, approximately 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., residents or others in the area may see smoke or fire.
Helicopters will be on standby and may also practice water drops as part of the exercise.
Weather will be closely monitored and the training will occur only if weather conditions are conducive on any particular day.
If time permits, firefighters may visit some neighborhoods in and around the Castaic/Val Verde area to determine where fire resources would best be positioned to protect homes if a fire impacts the area.
