A Santa Clarita transit bus struck and killed a pedestrian in Downtown Los Angeles early Thursday morning, according to officials at the Los Angeles Police Department.

“At about 6:48 a.m., a traffic collision occurred at Ceaser Chavez Avenue and Vignes Street,” said Tony Im, public information officer for LAPD Central Division. “A pedestrian was on the roadway when he was struck by a Santa Clarita city bus. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.”

The pedestrian was a 53-year-old Hispanic man. The driver remained on the scene and was not arrested.

Im had no information regarding other injuries or if passengers were on the bus when the incident occurred.

Central Traffic Division is handling the investigation. However, they are not releasing anymore information at this time, Im said.

This is breaking news and will be updated as more information becomes available.

Do not stand in front of bus!

    • Sue says:

First of all, people who don’t know the whole story should never comment negatively, that man that died yesterday was my brother and if you must know that bus driver was late by 15 minutes to his destination when he brutally struck and killed him!!, so don’t be so fast to assume that my brother, God rest his soul just stood in front of the bus!!!#IDIOT!!

      • Lisa Herrera says:

My Thoughts and Prayers are with the Family Through This Difficult.

      • Steve says:

Well my cousin’s body was finally released from the coroner’s. He is going to be cremated and services are set near the end of June. I’m relieved that his ashes will be with family but I’m sickened to know that his body was severely mutilated that neither an embalmer nor a desairologist were able to prepare him for a final viewing. ???

    • Steve says:

For everyone concerned about this article, The person killed in this accident is my cousin. I myself have not received much in on the whole accident except that he was hit and killed on impact and that he went underneath the bus. It’s believed that the bus driver was texting at the time but still under investigation. Just an FYI my cousin was only 53 not 60

      • Brandi says:

If the bus driver was texting, Santa Clarita transit would already know. There are cameras on every inch of those buses including one that is pointed right at the driver. Just letting you know. There’s cameras, they have to know what and how it happened already.

Santa Clarita bus drivers are the worst drivers

  6. What is SCV bus doing in DTLA?

  7. So sad, for the victim, and driver. The SCV bus drivers do an EXCELLENT job, and I’m sure the driver is devastated.

  8. Diane Davis says:

How tragic! I take Santa Clarita Transit downtown every day and it is a great service. My heart breaks for the victim’s family and for the bus driver.

  9. David Hauck David Hauck says:

The bus driver couldn’t stop the bus in time

  10. Tessa Lucero says:

@Khardine Silver, yes SCT has routes to downtown, Century City/UCLA, and Warner Center. Great alternative to driving — I’ve been riding SCT commuter buses since 1991.
@Andy Arriaga, I think SCT bus drivers as a group are good drivers. They’ve had some notable exceptions but most of the operators are skilled and experienced. And it’s not easy driving a 45 foot bus with up to 55 people on board to and through downtown or Century City.

  11. Nemo says:

SCValley has one of the best transportation service in the area. Provides alternative transportatio from driving. Many people depend on this service. Regardless of the outcome/investigation it is a trajic accident. My condolences to the family.
Also, my thoughts and prayers to the driver.

  12. Heather Forrester says:

These comments are heartless! He was a good friend of mine! He was our overnight maintenance associate at the Pico Rivera Walmart store #2886 for a few years. He didn’t have many family members but he was loved by many, including me. I considered him my brother. He had such a sweet personality and he was a great worker. I know he had struggled his last few month’s and he was determined to get through it, just like he always did. I’m just glad he’s “resting” now. He’s been through a lot. Hope you see you in the new system “Smidgie.” His memorial service will be in June 29th at 5pm at Guerra Gutierrez mortuary 5245 E Pomona Blvd Los Angeles ca if anyone wants to attend.

  13. Roberta hernandez says:

this is my past coworker he was a very responsible caring man, he would not just throw himself in front of the bus, he was full of life, to even think of throwing himself in front of buses, most of all if the bus driver was paying attention to the road why didn’t he see my friend??? And wouldn’t that bus driver saw my friend why didnt he choose to slow down or even stopped??? Like I said my friend wouldn’t have jus jumped in front like a irresponsible person, h. And please keep from posting idiotic posts because this man ment things to people, he was loved by many,
    RIP TO MY ANGEL FRIEND,
