The Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station’s Summer Crime Enforcement Team reports arresting five local residents and a Lancaster man who is on felony probation on various charges over the weekend.
Here’s the update from the station’s social media:
“UPDATE: Summer Crime Enforcement Team activity this week. Deputies have been continuing to scour SCV for illegal activity.
“And they’ve been finding it. Whether it’s making contact with a male adult ‘jaywalker’ in Canyon Country and finding methamphetamine on him, or conducting a traffic stop and finding four young adults on their ‘way to a party’ with a large amount of narcotics in their vehicle.
“All four went to jail; one for sales, and three for possession.
“Sometimes (deputies) don’t even have to look that hard to find those breaking the law.
“For instance, on Saturday night, when deputies were patrolling Newhall, they observed a BMW traveling at a VERY HIGH RATE of speed…as in probably more than double the speed limit.
“Deputies made a U-turn to follow the car which was continuing to speed and changing lanes all over the place. Then, right in front of their eyes, the driver rear-ended another vehicle but kept on going.
“Deputies caught up with the male adult driver when he stopped at a coffee shop on Newhall Avenue. After they contacted the suspect, a 23-year-old male, deputies discovered he is on active felony probation for carrying a loaded firearm.
“Deputies checked his vehicle and saw ammunition, but no firearm. They asked for the assistance of ‘Riley’ to make sure. Riley is an LASD K9 that specializes in detecting the scent of firearms. Riley didn’t find anything either.
“Deputies arrested the Lancaster man for possession of the ammunition, a felony charge since he’s a convicted felon, and a felony charge for probation violation.
“He was additionally arrested on vehicle code violations including hit and run and reckless driving.”
