After scorching a 48-year-old record Friday for the hottest July 6 in the Santa Clarita Valley, the ongoing heat wave melted a 67-year-old record for the SCV’s hottest July 7 on Saturday afternoon.
The National Weather Service reported the SCV temperature at 111°F at 12:57 p.m. Saturday. The SCV’s previous record high for July 7, set in 1951, was 102°F, according to Intellicast. The average high for July 7 is 93°F.
Saturday’s high topped the 106°F mark the NWS predicted in its updated forecast for the day.
The highest temperature recorded in July in Santa Clarita has been 46°C or 115°F, and the lowest 15°C or about 59°F, according to Weather2.
Red flag and excessive heat warnings remained in effect through Saturday afternoon and evening, respectively.
A heat advisory issued Saturday night is in effect until 9 p.m. Monday.
The NWS forecasts a low of 79°F in the SCV Saturday night, and a high of 102°F Sunday. SCV’s record high for July 8 is 104°F, set in 1985.
