The locator app in a stolen iPad led a Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputy to the suspected thief in Saugus on Sunday morning.
Here’s the story from the station’s social media:
“A deputy took a report on Sunday morning from a resident who had iPads stolen from the trunk of his vehicle during the night.
“The resident was able to tell the deputy the approximate location of…the iPads…by using a locator app. The deputy kept in touch with the resident over the phone as he headed out to the location.
“As the deputy came to Bouquet Junction, he observed a male adult walking with a bag that matched the description of the bag that was stolen from the victim’s trunk.
“(The deputy) pulled over and made contact with the male adult. As (the deputy) was talking to (the suspect), the victim set off the ‘alert tone’ on one of his iPads, causing it to emit a sound from the bag.
“Needless to say, the deputy arrested the 28-year-old transient on grand theft charges and recovered all three iPads.”
