LANCASTER – Logan Longwith turned in a quality start as Lancaster beat Lake Elsinore, 4-3, Sunday evening at The Hangar.
Longwith allowed just one run in six solid innings as the JetHawks won for the second time in three nights against the Storm.
Lake Elsinore (29-33, 63-69) scored the first run of the game thanks to a pair of hits in the second inning. Longwith (4-5) settled down after that, giving up just one more hit. He needed just 76 pitches to get through six innings, allowing three hits and one walk.
Lancaster (34-28, 67-65) went in front thanks to runs in four-straight innings. In the third, Carlos Herrera tied the game with an RBI single in the third. In the fourth inning, the JetHawks went in front on a two-out Wes Rogers double.
Bret Boswell brought home a run with a groundout in the fifth, and Vince Fernandez hit a leadoff home run in the sixth. Fernandez is now tied with Rancho Cucamonga’s Cristian Santana for the league lead in home runs.
All four Lancaster runs came against Ronald Bolaños (5-10), who took the loss. It was the sixth start of the season for Bolaños against the JetHawks.
The Storm made a push late, scoring in the final two innings. Lake Elsinore put the tying run on second base against Justin Lawrence in the ninth, but Eguy Rosario was thrown out trying to steal third to end the game. Lawrence picked up his tenth save of the season.
Here’s the box score.
