Matthew L. Fielding, 25, of La Crescenta, was killed when his motorcycle collided with a car on Interstate 5 in the Newhall Pass on Sunday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Here’s the story from the CHP’s Newhall Office:
“At approximately 1108 hours, a white Kawasaki motorcycle was traveling southbound on I-5, approaching I-210, at a high rate of speed.
“A silver BMW was traveling southbound on I-5, within the #6 lane, approaching I-210, ahead of the white motorcycle.
“The driver of the white motorcycle, identified as Matthew L. Fielding, collided into the right side of the BMW.
“As a result of the collision, Fielding was ejected from the motorcycle and landed on the southbound truck lanes. Fielding succumbed to his injuries on scene.
“The driver of the BMW sustained no injuries as a result of the collision.
“Speed may be a contributing factor for the cause of this collision; however, a thorough investigation is ongoing.
“Next-of-kin notifications were made through the Los Angeles County Coroner Office and CHP Officer Sandoval.
“This incident resulted in the closure of all southbound truck lanes, for approximately four hours. The Los Angeles County and Los Angeles City Fire Departments responded to the scene. The roadway was re-opened at approximately 1550 hours.
“Officer M. Sandoval, ID 21497, is handling the investigation.
“This collision is under investigation by the California Highway Patrol’s Newhall Area Office. Any witnesses are encouraged to contact the CHP’s Newhall office at 661-294-5540.”
