With World Teachers’ Day coming up Oct. 5 and teaching among the lowest-paid professions that require a bachelor’s degree, California gets mixed reviews from the personal-finance website WalletHub in its report on 2018’s “Best and Worst States for Teachers.”
In order to help educators find the best opportunities and teaching environments in the U.S., WalletHub analyzed the 50 states and the District of Columbia across 22 key metrics, ranging from teachers’ income growth potential to pupil-teacher ratio to teacher safety.
California’s friendliness toward teachers and the teaching profession varies, according to the survey’s results.

* 18th – Avg. Salary for Teachers (Adjusted for Cost of Living)
* 37th – Quality of School System

* 9th – Projected Competition in Year 2026
* 18th – 10-Year Change in Teacher Salaries
* 16th – Teacher Safety
