NORTHRIDGE – CSUN head softball coach Tairia Flowers has released the 2019 schedule, featuring 24-of-49 games that will take place at Matador Diamond.
The Matadors will face four of the eight teams that advanced to the 2018 NCAA Division I College World Series among 14 opponents that advanced to postseason play a year. CSUN will take on 16 teams that won at least 30 games a year ago including three that won at least 50.
“We’re excited for another season,” Flowers said. “We have a good mix of home and away games and the entire schedule with challenge our group. We have a great group of returners and a talented group of new comers, they should be a fun team to watch.”
2019 CSUN Softball Schedule Breakdown:
The Matadors will enter six tournaments, two of which CSUN will host prior to the start of Big West play;
– Arizona State Kajikawa Classic
– The CSUN Early Bird Classic
– LSU Tournament
– Judi Garman Classic (Cal State Fullerton, host)
– Silicon Valley Classic II (San José State & Santa Clara, host)
– CSUN/Loyola Marymount Tournament
CSUN’s Post Season Opponents
Four teams on the 2019 slate; Oregon (the national runner-up), Arizona State, UCLA, and Florida advanced to the 2018 Women’s College World Series.
Five teams made it to the 2018 NCAA Tournament; Oregon State, Michigan, LSU, Cal State Fullerton, and Long Beach State.
Four teams entered the inaugural NISC Tournament a year ago; Loyola Marymount, Nevada, UC Riverside, and Weber State.
California Baptist, which is moving up to Division I this season and is a member of the Western Athletic Conference, played in the NCAA Division II West Region in 2018, the final season for the Lancers at the D-2 level.
At Home
The first of the 24 home games will be the Feb. 15-17 Early Bird Classic and will follow with the CSUN/Loyola Marymount Tournament Mar. 15-17.
CSUN will host Saint Mary’s for a three-game series that will culminate Mar. 24 when the Matadors will also face UCLA later that afternoon.
Against The Power Five
The Arizona State Kaijkawa Classic will see the Matadors face four Pac-12 opponents (Oregon, Oregon State, Utah, and Arizona State).
The Matadors will play Stanford, Michigan, and LSU at the LSU Tournament Feb. 22-24.
CSUN faces Florida, and Michigan at the Judi Garman Classic Mar. 1-3.
Facing Winning Programs
CSUN opponents that won at least 50 games last season were UCLA (58), Florida (56), and Oregon (53).
CSUN foes that won at least 40 games in 2018 are Arizona State (47), LSU (45), Michigan (44), and Long Beach State (43).
CSUN rivals that won at 30 games a year ago were UC Riverside (38), Memphis (37), Cal State Fullerton (35), Loyola Marymount (34), San José State (32), Fresno State (31), and Oregon State (30).
Big West Season
The Matadors open Big West play at UC Davis Mar. 30-31, and continue on the road in league play Apr. 5-6 at Cal State Fullerton.
The opening Big West series is set for Apr. 13-14 against UC Riverside. Cal Poly travels to Northridge Apr. 19-20 before CSUN heads back out on the road to UC Santa Barbara Apr. 27-28.
The month of May sees Hawai’i close out home play May 3-4 before the season concludes at Long Beach State May 10-11.
