The holiday season is approaching and the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station issued a warning regarding deliveries and packages left on porches. Here is the advisory from the social media account of the SCV Sheriff’s Station:
With the holiday season fast approaching, be on the lookout for thieves stealing packages. Be aware of delivery dates and remove packages from your porch as quickly as possible.
If you’re not home, ask a neighbor if they can retrieve your items. Other options to protect your deliveries include having packages mailed to your workplace, or utilizing secure locker pickup locations offered by some companies.
If you are a victim of a package theft, you are encouraged to make a police report.
If you have a video surveillance system that captures images of a ‘porch pirate,’ please contact the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, and resist the urge to immediately share on social media community groups, as it may hinder detectives’ investigations.
In some cases, it has been found that video capturing possible criminal activity is being shared on social media, but yet has not been officially reported.
