California 36th District Assemblyman Tom Lackey, R-Palmdale, has lauded Gov. Gavin Newsom’s decision to kill most of the state’s high-speed rail project, including the section that would have affected Acton and Sand Canyon in the Santa Clarita Valley.
“After listening to the heartfelt comments from impacted residents all throughout Northern Los Angeles County, I am happy to report as of Feb. 12, 2019, the California High-Speed Rail project will no longer include the 36th Assembly District,” Lackey said Friday in a statement, which continues:
“The Governor has committed to finishing portions of the project within the Central Valley spanning from Bakersfield to Merced, but will no longer be pursuing the proposed project within our region.
“During Governor Newsom’s State of the State address he justified the completion of the Central Valley portion by stating, ‘Abandoning high-speed rail entirely means we will have wasted billions and billions of dollars with nothing but broken promises, partially filled commitments and lawsuits to show for it.’
“This is truly a great win for the residents of the 36th District whose homes, property, and way of life would have been drastically affected by the High-Speed Rail.”
Lackey represents the 36th Assembly District, which contains portions of Kern, San Bernardino and Los Angeles counties, including the communities of Lancaster, Palmdale, Santa Clarita, Quartz Hill, Acton, Boron, Littlerock, Pearblossom, Mojave, Rosamond, California City, Phelan and Piñon Hills.
