Don Newcombe Patch

The Dodgers will unveil their Don Newcombe memorial uniform patch, which they will continue to wear throughout the 2019 season in recognition of “Newk’s” contributions to the franchise, on and off the field.

The Dodgers, winners of six consecutive division titles and back-to-back National League pennants, will kick off the 2019 season Thursday with Opening Day presented by Bank of America at 1:10 p.m. against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Opening Week presented by Bank of America continues during the four-game weekend series against the D-backs (Thursday-Sunday) and next Monday-Wednesday (April 1-3), when the Dodgers host the Giants for a three-game set. A limited number of tickets remain for Opening Day Thursday (1:10 p.m.) and are available online at Dodgers.com/Tickets. Tickets are also available for the rest of the homestand at www.dodgers.com/tickets or by calling (866) DODGERS.

Pregame ceremonies on Opening Day will celebrate the life and legacy of former Rookie of the Year, four-time All-Star, Cy Young Award winner and Most Valuable Player Don Newcombe, who passed away on February 19 at the age of 92. Newcombe was passionate about mentoring youth baseball players in Los Angeles’ underserved neighborhoods, and on Opening Day, the proceeds of the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation’s 50-50 raffle will be donated to help support the baseball programs at Morningside, Inglewood, Dominguez and Centennial High Schools. In addition, representatives of those baseball programs will take part in the first pitch ceremony.

In recognition of Newcombe’s military service, the National Anthem will be performed by Chief Warrant Officer 2 (CW2) Jeff Smith, a commander and conductor of the 300th Army Band in Los Angeles, while the U.S. Army’s Golden Knights Parachute Team will parachute into the stadium, Joint Color Guard – Fort Irwin will present the colors and members of all branches of the military will unfurl a giant flag in center field during the anthem. Additionally, there will be a flyover from the 452nd Air Mobility Wing from March Air Reserve Base.

The Dodgers will unveil their Don Newcombe memorial uniform patch, which they will continue to wear throughout the 2019 season in recognition of “Newk’s” contributions to the franchise, on and off the field. The Newcombe memorial patch will also be worn by the Morningside, Inglewood, Dominguez and Centennial High School baseball teams this spring.

Auto and Stadium gates open at 10:00 a.m. on Opening Day and the Dodgers encourage fans to arrive early, with entertainment beginning at 10:00 a.m., the team working out on the field beginning at 10:40 a.m. and pregame ceremonies starting at 12:30 p.m. The Dodger Stadium Express will start operating at 10:00 a.m., and more information on parking and public transportation options to Dodger Stadium can be found online at www.dodgers.com under the Dodger Stadium tab at the top of the page.

The Dodgers will battle the D-backs three more times over the weekend, before welcoming the San Francisco Giants for three games next Monday-Wednesday to close out the seven-game homestand. Opening Week presented by Bank of America includes great promotions and events with Friday Night Fireworks presented by Denny’s, Walker Buehler Bobbehead Night presented by Bank of America on March 30, Kids Run the Bases following Sunday’s 1:10 p.m. game, $1 Dodger Dog Night on April 1 and a hooded sweatshirt giveaway on April 3 presented by Bank of America. The team will also host Law Enforcement Night on Tuesday, April 2, with special pregame ceremonies and a ticket pack that includes an exclusive mug available at Dodgers.com/Events.

With large crowds expected on Thursday (Opening Day), Friday (Friday Night Fireworks presented by Denny’s) and Saturday (Walker Buehler Bobblehead presented by Bank of America), fans are encouraged to plan ahead and arrive early.
