GLENDALE — College of the Canyons freshman Anguerrand Voisin (pictured above) tied for medalist honors and Jules Lavigne placed third overall as the Cougars finished runner-up in the team standings at the Western State Conference event played at Oakmont Country Club on Monday.

Santa Barbara City College won the event with a five-man score of 381, followed by Canyons (387) in second place and host Glendale (391) four shots back in third.

Voisin’s two-over-par round of 74 tied with JB Jandro of SBCC for medalist honors. The freshman had previously carded a round of 73 to tie for second place at the WSC event played at River Ridge Golf Course back in February, but had yet to medal this season.

Lavigne finished with a score of 75 to tie with three others in the third place spot. Tom Sims ended his day at 78 to help the Cougars’ cause.

COC golfers Matthew Mansholt, Nobuhiko Wakaari and James Wilkes all shot rounds of 80, with one player’s score dropped for the final team tally of 387.

SBCC (66-6) has now won two straight WSC events to pull within a game of first place Canyons (67-5).

The Cougars finish the regular season at the WSC Finals on April 29, at Soule Park on Ojai. The 36-hole event is scheduled to tee off at 7 a.m. and will determine a conference champion and player of the year.

Canyons has won nine straight conference titles dating back to 2010.
