The Master’s University aquatic program has signed the first diver in school history — Courtney Simpson.

Simpson comes to the Mustangs from Faith Christian School in Palos Verdes, California, and Master’s coach Byron Davis is confident she will make an immediate impact in terms of both scoring and mentality.

“Courtney is sure to bring the fire and passion this season to our team,” Davis said. “She is going to be able to come in and be an impact player right out of the gate.”

Simpson specializes in 1- and 3-meter diving, areas where the Mustangs were unable to score points during last season’s impressive inaugural season. Master’s ultimately sent four relays and two individual swimmers to NAIA nationals.

The diver said she chose Master’s because of its strong biblical commitment.

“Everything that TMU does comes out of a love for the Lord and a goal of honoring Christ,” she said. “As a Christian, the goal for my life is to bring glory to God in whatever I do, and because of this, I believe that Master’s aligns with this goal.”

The Mustangs, who primarily train at the Santa Clarita Aquatic Center, compete in the Pacific Collegiate Swimming and Diving Conference, which features Pepperdine and Loyola Marymount, among others.

Master’s has published a more robust schedule for 2019-2020 than last season. The Mustangs open the year on Oct. 4 at the Pacific Collegiate Swimming and Diving Conference Relay Invite in La Mirada, California.
