1879 - First official Newhall School building erected near Walnut & Ninth streets [story]

A 36-year-old Santa Clarita mother of five children survived a heroin overdose Thursday, revived by Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies armed with Narcan.

In reporting the overdose, station officials asked the community for help in fighting the opioid crisis on the local front.

Here’s the story from the station’s social media:

“She was gone, at the age of 36.

“Deputies arrived on scene and administered Narcan. The mother was brought back to life and transported to a hospital for medical care.

“Although her life was saved, her family did not go unscathed from the toll of addiction. Five young children, ranging in age from 4 months to 10 years, were taken by deputies and put into protective custody. The children were referred to the Department of Child and Family Services.

“It is our hope that this mother will get the assistance she needs, so she can be there for her children in the future.

“SCV, we need your help. We can not battle the opioid crisis alone. Although a nationwide epidemic, you can help us make a powerful impact in Santa Clarita Valley.

“Helping a friend or loved one struggling with drug addiction can be a long and heartbreaking journey. At times, it can be so overwhelming that pretending it doesn’t exist may seem like an easier option. It’s important that you encourage your loved ones to get the help they need.

“We are expanding the outreach of our J-Team to help those fighting addiction get into rehabilitation programs. Our specialized teams are also going after the ‘real suspects’ victimizing others – the drug dealers.

“Drug dealers knowingly supply controlled substances to victims that they know could lead to addiction and overdose deaths. If you want to provide anonymous tips regarding suspected drug dealers in our area, use the www.LACrimeStoppers.org website or call 1-800-222-8477.

“If you need information on resources and getting help for drug addiction for yourself or loved ones, you can reach out to the members of our J-Team by email at SantaClaritaJTeam@lasd.org. The team is there to support you in drug recovery efforts.

“Join us in helping take a stand against drug addiction. Together, we can start a ripple effect of positive change.”
