Deputies from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station handed out 74 citations in a bicycle and pedestrian safety operation Thursday morning.
Here’s more from the station’s social media:
“On Thursday, August 22, 2019, between the hours of 7 a.m. to 11 a.m., a pedestrian/bicycle safety operation was conducted in the city of Santa Clarita.
“During the special enforcement period, deputies issued 74 traffic citations.
“Over half of the citations were issued for cell phone use while driving.
“Citations were also issued for failing to yield to pedestrians and failing to stop at a red light.
“It is our hope that this operation, funded by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, will further the awareness of being focused on the road, and safely sharing the road with others.”

I often wonder why the people that cross in the middle of the street, or step off the curb without even looking at traffic, usually they are looking at their phone, are never cited or warned.. This problem needs to be addressed and not put all the blame on driving citizens… Bike riders also need to know that the roads need to be shared by all concerned, and that they are not above the laws…
