PALMDALE — Sophomore Haruka Koda took home medalist honors in a third straight conference event as College of the Canyons‘ women’s golf team took the top three individual spots and another team victory at Antelope Valley Country Club on Monday.
The Canyons team carded a four-player score of 312 to outlast runner-up Santa Barbara City College (338). Citrus College (429) was a distant third followed by Bakersfield College (431) in fourth and Antelope Valley College (431) which settled for a fifth-place finish after a card-off with the Renegades.
Koda finished an even-par round of 72 with teammate Jessie Lin the next closest in second place at a three-over-par mark of 75.
Paige Heuer tied with another golfer for third place finish with a score of 79.
Fredeliza Lieberman took eighth place on Monday with a score of 86.
Shabana Poswal shot a round of 89 but did not factor into COC’s final score on Monday.
Canyons now boasts a team record of 20-0 to top the Western State Conference (WSC) standings. Santa Barbara City College is in second place at 16-4 and AVC is in third place with a 10-10 record.
The College of the Canyons Cougars will be back in action at WSC No. 5 on Monday, Oct. 7, at Kern River Golf Course in Bakersfield.
