The Foothill League championship in baseball is completely up for grabs.
Hart, Saugus and West Ranch are tied for first place in the league standings after Friday’s games. Valencia sits a game behind the top three, in fourth place, after knocking off Hart.
The Vikings won 6-2 to climb back in the Foothill League race. Valencia’s Chris Gimenez pitched 4 1/3 shutout innings in relief and Brian Mundell knocked in two runs in a four-run sixth inning.
Saugus moved into a first-place tie with Hart with a come-from-behind win over Canyon. The Centurions won, 3-2, scoring two runs in the sixth inning to take the lead.
The West Ranch baseball team also won a tight one, 4-3, over Golden Valley. J.C. Cloney drove in the tying run and scored the game-winner in the fifth inning.
The Hart softball team won two games in the Thousand Oaks tournament. Hart beat Burbank, 9-3, in the first game. Jessica Jones drove in three runs and had two hits.
Hart hit five home runs and beat La Reina, 11-1, in the second game. Juli Strange hit two homers and drove in five runs. Jones, Paxton Provost and Tracy Chandless also homered for Hart.
The Saugus softball team beat Vista Murrieta, 9-7, in the Santiago Spring Fling tournament. The Centurions scored four runs in the first inning.
The Canyon softball team lost to El Camino Real, 10-0 in five innings, in the Valley Classic Tournament at Birmingham High.
In college softball, College of the Canyons earned the top seed in the California Community College Athletic Association Southern Regional and will play Santa Barbara City College in the first round.
COC finished with a state-leading 37 wins and won the Western State Conference Blue Division championship.
In college baseball, the College of the Canyons open the California Community College Athletic Association playoffs against Santa Barbara City College on Tuesday.
In the NBA playoffs, the Lakers won the first game of their series against the Denver Nuggets, 103-88. Andrew Bynum recorded a triple-double with a playoff record 10 blocks, 10 points and 13 rebounds.
The Clippers pulled off one of the biggest comebacks in playoff history and beat the Memphis Grizzlies, 99-98, in Game 1 of their series. The Clippers were down by 27 points in the second half, but outscored the Grizzlies, 35-13, in the fourth quarter.
The Kings have a 1-0 lead over the Blues in the NHL Western Conference playoffs. The Kings beat the Blues, 3-1, in the first game of the Western Conference semifinals.
Matt Greene scored a short-handed goal in Game 1 for the Kings. Dustin Penner added an empty-netter at the end of the game to seal the victory.
Game 2 of the series is tonight in St. Louis. The puck drops at 6 p.m.
