Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station officials have arrested a seventh suspect in connection with a series of armed robberies on a bike path in Canyon Country.
Raymond Gatica, 21, of Canyon Country, was arrested in June in connection with three reports of armed robberies committed in May. Pedro Palacios, 19, also of Canyon Country, was arrested in July.
The last suspect, a juvenile, was arrested over Labor Day weekend, according to Sheriff’s Station officials.
There were five other juvenile suspects who were taken into custody for their alleged involvement in a series of robberies, one of which included an assault, according to Sheriff’s Department officials.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office was unable to provide any information on the dispositions for the cases against the juvenile defendants, as of this story’s publication. That information will be added as it becomes available.
The complaint against Gatica and Palacios alleges one count of second degree robbery, one count of attempted second degree robbery and one count of assault with a semiautomatic firearm.
The criminal complaint against Gatica, aka “Diablo,” also cites a previous conviction for carrying a firearm.
Gatica was sentenced for a parole violation after his arrest, and given a six-month sentence.
The suspects were held to answer to the charges Aug. 11, and they pleaded not guilty on Aug. 25, at their formal arraignment.
Gatica is being held in lieu of $235,000 bail; Palacios is being held in lieu of $51,000 bail.
Both adult suspects are due back in court Sept. 23.

A Santa Clarita man was riding his bicycle on a path close to the wash area, near Sierra Highway and Via Princessa, around midnight May 25, when he was surrounded by seven men.
One of the men reportedly pulled a handgun, pointed it at the suspect and demanded his wallet.
The suspects then reportedly stole the victim’s wallet, backpack, cellphone and credit cards.
This was the second robbery reported that night under similar circumstances. The suspects in that incident fit a description similar to ones in the other robbery, officials said.
The following Saturday, a third armed robbery was reported around 6 p.m. on the 18300 block of Soledad Canyon Road in Canyon Country.
A man walking on the bike path in the area was approached by approximately 10 male suspects, one of whom pulled out a black hand gun and demanded the victim’s money.
When the victim stated he had no money, the victim was hit by the suspects who then fled the area.

But if you do go at midnight, which I do often, do be so stupid to think there are not idiots out there just waiting to jack you for your stuff. Unfortunately many people that aren’t from awesome town walk those trails, as they do our surrounding areas. Be on high alert… Not feeling too safe anymore. How many years before it really looks like bit to name a few___ other cities… Countdown. 5,4,3…years? 5.
I wouldnt want to live anywhere else…I.ve noticed an uptick in crime since first moving here…the population has increased…growing pains of progress…not as laid back and casual as it used to be…times change and we need to be more aware of our surroundings…they have closed off a lot of the entrances to the bike path making it harder to exit if neccessary…

I’ve seen, the officer on the right in a couple ocations, he’s always working at night in different areas or check points within Sta.Clarita. He is a cool and respectful deputy, it is good to have people like him and fellow deputies safekeeping our town our home, Thank you.
