[KHTS] – The votes for the Santa Clarita City Council race have been tallied and Dante Acosta claimed the third seat Tuesday, when just over 950 provisional ballots were counted at City Hall.
Acosta widened the 46-vote lead he brought into the final count, garnering a total of 4,937 votes.
Alan Ferdman finished with 4,833 votes, and Duane Harte ended up with 4,506.
Mayor Laurene Weste and Councilwoman Marsha McLean finished in first and second place, respectively. Three seats were up for grabs on the five-seat council.

The Santa Clarita 2014 Municipal election final ballot count commenced today, following the counting of 1,001 ballots, with final non-certified results announced. Mayor Laurene Weste was the top vote-getter with 6,210 votes, followed by Mayor Pro tem Marsha McLean with 5,677 votes.
The third spot went to first-time City Council candidate Dante Acosta, with 4,937 votes –104 votes ahead of candidate Alan Ferdman. Finishing fifth was Gloria Mercado-Fortine with 4,633 votes; Duane Harte with 4,506 votes and Maria Gutzeit with 4,472 votes.
Today at 1 p.m. in the Century Room at City Hall (23920 Valencia Blvd.), the City Clerk’s office will perform a mandatory hand-counting of two randomly selected precincts. This is done to provide a checks and balances to the ballot-counting machine.
At the regular City Council meeting on April 22, the election will be certified and then all three council members will be sworn in during a special meeting at 5:30 p.m. The regular City Council meeting will commence at 6 p.m.

Don’t complain if you didn’t vote? Not voting is says more about politics than voting. If you don’t vote you have more of a right to complain. A no vote is a protest vote, it means no candidate best represents your ideals. Voting for the lesser of two evils is still a vote for evil.
Congrats to all the winners…and yes don’t complain unless you have voted.
John, not sure what your comment is really about, it’s unfortunate that many people take voting for granted, but it’s still a democracy, just less of us willing to read up on the candidates and get out to vote.
