An Agua Dulce woman was sentenced Thursday to 180 days in jail by the City Attorney’s office for violating the terms of her probation which prohibit her from owning or living with any animals.

The registered nurse, who is called an “animal hoarder” by the City Attorney, was previously prosecuted by the City Attorney and convicted in 2015 on animal cruelty and animal neglect charges after investigators found more than 30 dogs, six cats and two potbellied pigs in squalid conditions in her Lake Balboa home.

“Ensuring the protection and welfare of animals is something I take very seriously,” said Feuer. “When we prosecute abusers we expect them to adhere to the terms of their sentences. If they don’t, we’ll do our best to ensure there are consequences.”

In February 2015, Corey Deborah Carnegie, 51, was placed on three years of probation and ordered not to possess or be in custody of any animals for five years or participate in any animal rescue or adoption activities.

It was alleged that Carnegie’s pets in her home appeared to be suffering with skin conditions, flea infestation, fecal matter matted in their paws and fur as well as a strong smell of urine. Officers observed multiple dirty animal crates with soiled blankets and bedding in the home.

In March 2016, acting on a tip, Department of Animal Services Officers discovered Carnegie living in Agua Dulce with four dogs and three horses, including two animals previously seized in her original case. Judge Christine Ewell sentenced Carnegie to 180 days in jail and immediately placed her in custody.

Carnegie remains on probation by the court and she could face an additional two years in jail and $23,000 in fines if any further violations occur. Deputy City Attorney Don Cocek successfully prosecuted the case.
