In partnership with the Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center and Alzheimer’s Greater Los Angeles, College of the Canyons will be offering the next workshop for family caregivers.
The event will take place Saturday, April 28, from 9:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. at the Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center, located at 22900 Market St, Santa Clarita, 91321.
This is a free workshop and refreshments are provided. Please share this with anyone you believe might benefit from participating in this workshop.
Workshop information:
The workshop is designed to train family caregivers to handle the stress of caring for family members with cognitive impairment. The workshop will serve both first time participants in our workshop series and those who have attended regularly.
The workshop will help you:
● understand Alzheimer’s & dementia and other cognitive impairment conditions (stroke, Parkinson’s, etc.)
● develop caregiving strategies
● learn what to do when daily tasks become challenging
● Identify techniques to reduce caregiver stress to take care of you
● connect with resources in your community

Workshop Presenters:
Monique Castillo, M.S.W. Monique attended the University of Southern California and received her Master’s in Social Work. She chose to work in this field of helping families deal with the diagnosis of dementia, as she has experienced it herself on a personal level. She understands the hardship of having a loved one with dementia. She joined Alzheimer’s Greater Los Angeles at the beginning of the year and serves as the Care Counselor for the Santa Clarita and San Fernando Valleys. She is based here at the Santa Clarita Senior Center on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. As a care counselor, she provides personalized support and help with care planning in person or by phone.
Adrianna Guadarrama, M.P.H. Adrianna received her Master’s in Public Health from National University. With 7 years of experience working as a caregiver and certified nurse assistant among the aging population, Adrianna pursued a career in public health to educate the community about Alzheimer’s disease and to reduce the stigma associated with the disease. She joined Alzheimer’s Greater Los Angeles two years ago and serves as Manager of Education and Outreach for the Santa Clarita and San Fernando Valleys. She provides culturally sensitive presentations to the general public on a variety of topics related to Alzheimer’s, and she also does trainings for caregivers.
