The City of Santa Clarita is inviting residents, property owners and businesses to a community meeting to learn more about how they might be impacted by revisions to flood maps for a portion of the Newhall community. The meeting will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at Hart Hall within Hart Park, located at 24151 Newhall Avenue.
At the meeting, the City and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will discuss flood insurance requirements and provide a presentation about a recent study, which identified flooding risks from Newhall Creek. Residents and property owners will have a chance to see detailed maps of the area, ask questions and learn how their business or property may be affected by changes to the flood maps.
In 2008, FEMA revised flood maps for the Newhall area. These changes brought new areas into the flood zone, which may change property owner’s flood insurance requirements. Other properties will have their flood insurance requirement eliminated.
