Following the Court of Appeals’ decision to grant the Los Angeles County’s temporary stay to block the reinjection of natural gas into the Aliso Canyon Storage Facility, Supervisor Kathryn Barger issued the following statement Friday evening:
“The decision by Court of Appeals to grant the County’s temporary stay is a victory for the residents of Porter Ranch and the northwest San Fernando Valley. This ruling recognizes that there are still significant issues that need to be considered by the Court before reinjection is allowed at the Aliso Canyon facility, including an analysis for the root-cause of the massive 2015 blowout, seismic risk assessments, and a long-term energy reliability study. The County will continue to explore all available opportunities to determine what future actions can be taken to ensure the health and safety of the community.”
Original story from July 28:
Following Superior Court Judge Wiley’s decision to deny the Los Angeles County’s request for a temporary restraining order to block the reinjection of natural gas into the Aliso Canyon Storage Facility, County Supervisor Kathryn Barger issued the following statement:
“This afternoon, Judge Wiley denied the County’s request on jurisdictional grounds, stating that he did not have the authority to consider the temporary restraining order to block reinjection at the Aliso Canyon Storage Facility.
“The County plans to go to the Court of Appeals this afternoon to request an emergency stay until the County can file for further injunctive relief.
“The County’s first priority is to protect the health and safety of the residents of Porter Ranch and the northwest San Fernando Valley. I believe that allowing Aliso Canyon to begin re-injecting puts the residents in a potentially unsafe environment.”
