Tip of the week: Halloween Safety
Halloween is just around the corner! Here are some tips to make it a good and safe one:
1. If you have small children who will be trick-or-treating, be sure that they have proper supervision. Assist them when crossing the streets at night, and give them a flashlight or glow stick to make them more visible.
2. If you have older children who will be going out without supervision, be sure they go with a group of friends. (Safety in numbers.) Discuss with them what streets they will be going on, and have a return home time established. Assure that they have a fully charged cell phone, and that they carry a flashlight or glow stick.
3. After your children have returned form trick-or-treating, inspect their candy and assure that it has not been tampered with. I advise discarding anything that is not vacuum or heat sealed. Do not allow your children to eat anything during trick-or-treat until you have inspected it.
4. If you will be driving, reduce your speed in residential areas and be extra alert for pedestrians.
5. At the end of the night, bring in your valuable decorations and pumpkins to avoid being a victim of vandalism.
