Caltrans to Close Portions of State Route 14 for Pavement Rehab

SANTA CLARITA, PALMDALE, LANCASTER – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will close portions of State Route 14 for a pavement rehabilitation project to improve the condition of the lanes and create a smoother ride for motorists.

Closures are scheduled nightly on Monday, April 15 through Saturday, April 20 from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Closures may start and end later. All closures are weather-permitting and subject to change.

The project requires closing two lanes to facilitate a safe work zone to protect workers and motorists.

The project includes replacing concrete slabs, grinding, and striping both directions of SR-14 between the Santa Clara River and Technology Drive. Myers and Sons Construction is the contractor on the $6.6 million pavement rehabilitation project that is estimated to complete spring 2019.

Motorists should expect delays and are strongly advised to plan ahead, use alternate routes, and avoid the area. Additionally, motorists can check traffic conditions before they leave by visiting the Caltrans Quickmap.

Caltrans reminds motorists to “Be Work Zone Alert” and “Slow for the Cone Zone.”

    Oh gosh, is CalTrans going to fix all the giant pavement divots that are tearing up my vehicle’s tires and shock absorbers, and my front suspension as well?

    Hallelujah! I’ve been waiting for the front end rebuild, hoping that the giant crumping sounds as I drive will last long enough to continue to visit my Mom in her care facility in Lancaster.

    Yeah sure. I’ve been here before, and the sad condition of the State Route 14 pavement seems to be nobody’s concern. I remember when that sucker was built, starting at (what used to be) Solemint Junction. What an amazing and productive force it became for travel to and from the SFV and the AV in the 1970’s…until nobody cared to do anything about maintaining it.

    CalTrans can only do what the State says it must, and that relies on funding by the State Senate and the State Representatives. And of course the Gubnor’s signature. WTF am I doing paying state road taxes when they do not go to maintaining the States’ Routes?
