county_handcuffs[KHTS] – Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station detectives arrested one suspect and are searching for another in a recent attack that deputies are calling an attempted murder.

Daniel Constantino, 20, of Canyon Country, is suspected of being involved in a near fatal stabbing Sept. 15.

Preliminary information led detectives to believe that once the victim parked his vehicle at the location, a dark-colored, possible late-1990s Chevy Impala with two men, Constantino and a friend, crashed into the victim’s vehicle, Sheriff’s Department officials said.

Deputies believe the traffic collision might have been intentional.

After the traffic collision, one of the male suspects reportedly confronted the victim at the driver’s side door of the victim’s vehicle.

The victim was then stabbed.

“Whether it was road rage or gang-related, we’re still investigating,” said said Sgt. Dean Currie of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station’s COBRA unit, “mainly because the victim is still recovering.”

The victim is expected to survive the attack.

The crime took place around 8 p.m., according to Sheriff’s Station officials, who said the victim was taken to the hospital shortly after.

Sheriff’s Department officials would not confirm whether the attack was gang-related.

The severity of the attack is what led detectives to seek an attempted murder charge, Sheriff’s Station officials said after the attack.

“(Assault with a deadly weapon and attempted murder) are very close,” Currie said. “The difference is intent. We’re going to go with attempted murder because of the severity of the injury.”

The Sheriff’s Station’s COBRA Unit, or Career Offenders Burglary Robbery Assault, is a team of detectives who investigate all juvenile and gang-related crime.

Detectives investigated the scene at Newhall Avenue, near the Canyon Crest Apartments and Highway 14.

Constantino was arrested Friday at 3:45 p.m.

The victim, whose name has not been released, is recovering in an intensive care unit at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital.

Constantino is being held without bail at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

He is due in court Tuesday.
