[News Release] – The Thursdays @ Newhall series, presented by Galpin Subaru, snaps back into action this May with the third installments of Art SLAM, JAM Sessions and SENSES.
Art SLAM kicks off on Thursday, May 1, 2014 between 7:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. with a theme dedicated to the art of the human figure. From abstract illustrations to 3D animation, artists have depicted the human body through a wide variety of mediums since the prehistoric era. The beauty and diversity of the human body continues to evolve through artwork and will be appreciated through various displays at the May 1 Art SLAM event.
Attendees will be able to browse a video installation of faces presented by local art group ARTree, David Green’s “The Other Side of the Lens” exhibit featuring portraits of photographers with their cameras, Dianne Foderaro’s whimsical metal sculptures made entirely from recycled materials and much more. The event will also feature live music by DJ Justin Cornwall and several art demonstrations and activities, including a live photo shoot featuring professional models and photographers, sidewalk drawings with artist Zach Hill, costumed model painting with local artists Steph Darling and Suzi Kades, and stenciling with Pablo Cevallos.
On Thursday, May 8 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., the interactive musical movement JAM Sessions returns with Bluegrass Music demonstrations by Randy Torno Bluegrass Jam School. Discover the roots of traditional country music through the instrumental sounds of Bluegrass, including the banjo, mandolin, bass, guitar and fiddle. This FREE session is presented in partnership with the Ford Theatre Foundation, the James Irvine Foundation and the City of Santa Clarita. To learn more, visit FordJamSessions.org.
“As if!” things couldn’t get any better, SENSES travels back to the days of big hair, Technicolor miniskirts and shoulder pads for a 1980’s Prom event on Thursday, May 15 from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Attendees are invited to dress in their best retro garb and head over to Main Street for a totally tubular event complete with live 80’s music, gourmet food trucks, street performers, and much more.
