Dive into the fastest-growing sport in the world and enroll in a fun and safe SCUBA certification course offered by the City of Santa Clarita, just in time for summer.
Anyone interested in learning more about the City’s SCUBA certification program is invited to attend a free, introductory orientation held at the Santa Clarita Aquatic Center on Wednesday, March 28 from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. No reservation is necessary to attend the orientation. The Santa Clarita Aquatics Center is located at 20850 Centre Pointe Parkway.
The orientation session does not require a financial obligation and is designed to give prospective participants a glimpse into the eight-week program, while providing an opportunity to mix and mingle with potential classmates.
The SCUBA certification course combines lectures and in-pool experience taught by certified instructors with technical, commercial, professional and military underwater backgrounds.
SCUBA lecture classes will be held from 6:30-9 p.m. on the weeknights of April 5, April 12, April 19, and April 26. In-pool SCUBA training takes place from 12:30-3:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 7, April 14, April 21, and April 28.
Those who are interested in registering for the course may pay the class fee of $125 at the orientation session, which also covers the costs of SCUBA equipment. In addition to the class fee, a materials fee of $150 is required for the textbook, DVD tutorial, logbook and dive tables.
Student divers must provide their own mask, fins, snorkel, and neoprene boots as well as cover the costs of a Catalina Island SCUBA diving excursion.
