Going “Green” this season is the greatest gift you can give to the earth and ultimately to our families and future. By giving responsibly, being creative and reusing materials you can reduce environmental impact.
Celebrate this year with these fun and festive eco-friendly tips:
1. Buy locally-made gifts instead of products that have to be shipped.
2. Choose gifts made from recycled materials.
3. If gifts require batteries, include rechargeable batteries and a charger.
4. Give the gift of charity and ask that loved ones donate to a charity on your behalf as well.
5. Select gifts that don’t require much packaging, like gift certificates, tickets to movies or events, plants or homemade treats.
6. Save trees by sending e-cards or make homemade cards with materials sitting around the house.
7. Reuse bows, ribbon, gift bags and wrapping paper, or use alternatives to wrapping paper such as fabric, newspaper and magazines.
8. Use LED lights for indoor and outdoor lighting. Set up a timer for lights or make sure you turn them off at bedtime.
Remember that your holiday tree can be recycled by placing it at the curb on your regular trash collection day between Dec. 26 and Jan. 13, 2018. Please make sure lights, stands and ornaments have been removed.
