There is still time for Santa Clarita kids to submit artwork for the City of Santa Clarita’s 2014 River Rally T-shirt contest. Original art designs from local kindergarten through sixth grade students will be accepted now through Friday, Aug. 22. The winning artwork will be featured on the 2014 River Rally event T-shirt and worn by thousands of volunteers.
Under the theme “Happy 20th Birthday River Rally,” the contest welcomes kids to create a T-shirt design illustrating the importance of River Rally and how it protects our local environment. The winner will be notified by September 5 and their artwork will be printed on t-shirts given to all volunteers at the 20th Annual River Rally & Environmental Expo on Saturday, September 20, 2014.
Each River Rally T-shirt design may be up to 8” by 8” in size and may feature up to six colors. Any art medium will be accepted, including markers, crayons water colors and paint. One entry will be accepted per artist. Completed designs and entry forms must be submitted in high resolution via email to ljardine@santa-clarita.com or environment@santa-clarita.com. River Rally brings together thousands of Santa Clarita residents each year to clean up a portion of the Santa Clara River, which is home to endangered species, archaeological sites and historical landmarks. Since 1994, River Rally volunteers have collected more than 387,000 pounds of trash and debris from the Santa Clara River and its tributaries, helping to preserve the longest free-flowing river in Southern California and a major water source for the Santa Clarita Valley.
The 20th Annual River Rally clean-up will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2014 from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Santa Clara River near Wiley Canyon Road and Via Princessa bridge.
