College of the Canyons sophomore Victoria Jamison placed 10th in the field, leading her squad to a sixth-place result, and the Cougars’ men’s team finished 16th at the 3C2A Southern California Regional Cross Country Championship meet at Naval Training Center Park on Friday, Nov. 7.

Canyons will now see both of its teams move on to compete at the 3C2A State Championship meet for the third straight year.  The women’s program is running at the state championships for a sixth straight season, having also qualified in 11 of the last 12 seasons.

Jamison posted a time of 18:52.46 on the 5K course and was the third-fastest runner from the Western State Conference. That finish earned Jamison a spot on the All-Southern California Regional Team. The Saugus High School alum will now be running at the state championship meet in Fresno for the second straight year after placing eighth and earning JC All-American honors a year ago.

COC freshman Jazlene Herreres (53rd/21:01.63) and sophomore Lilianna Moreira (54th/21:02.05) were next to finish for the Cougars.

Sophomore Alyssa Arriaga (70th/21:27.78) and freshman Ruby Salazar (81st/21:51.64) were the final two scoring runners for Canyons in a field that included more than 145 student-athletes.

Cougars freshman Andrea Fernandez (100th/22:33.33) and sophomore Giselle Ruiz (113th/23:21.82) both competed but weren’t included in the final scoring.

Moreira, Arriaga and Ruiz were also part of the Canyons contingent that ran at the 2024 state championship meet.

Mt. San Antonio College (61) won the women’s regional championship ahead of Orange Coast College (96), San Diego Mesa College (108), Moorpark College (178), East L.A. College (218) and Canyons (244) across the top six positions.

On the men’s side it was freshman Josue Lopez leading the way with a four-mile time of 20:44.25 to finish 15th. Lopez also ranked fifth among WSC competitors.

Canyons freshmen Carlos Villa Moreno (100th/22:41.83) and Spencer Easterbrook (119th/23:08.24) were next to score for the Cougars.

COC freshman Noah Flores (126th/23:21.62) and sophomore Nathan Parras (132nd/23:29.54) were also included in the five scoring times. Fellow freshman Neil Aspert (148th/24:27.23) had his time scratched from the final tally.

Parras is the only returning runner from the 2024 squad that ran at the state meet.

Riverside City College (79) won the men’s regional championship ahead of Cerritos College (98) and Cuyamaca College (121) in the top three spots. Canyons (473) finished 16th among the 27 competing programs.

Canyons will now have a week off before running at the 2025 3C2A State Championship meet at Woodward Park in Fresno. The action begins Saturday, Nov. 22, with the women’s race set for a 10 a.m. start followed by the men’s competition at 11 a.m.
