SAN MATEO — Freshman thrower Jordan Palmer finished runner-up in the shot put and Delon Buncio placed fourth in the long jump as College of the Canyons track & field closed out its season by competing at CCCAA State Championship meet hosted by the College of San Mateo May 17-18.
Palmer, already the CCCAA Southern California Regional Champion in the same event, recorded a mark of 15.20m (49′ 10.5″) on his second throw. He finished just six inches off the distance recorded by state champion Brenden Coffey (15.35m/50′ 4.5″) of Butte College.
The freshman also placed 11th in the discus at 37.69m (123′ 8″).
COC sophomore Delon Buncio came away with the other top-five finish for the Cougars after taking fourth in the javelin with a throw of 52.30m (171′ 7″).
Buncio later placed eighth in the long jump with a leap of 6.67m (21′ 10.75″) to close out his Cougars career.
Canyons sophomore Celeste Gonzalez was the lone participant for the women’s team. She finished 12th in the 1,500m at a time of 5:17.69.
