In an effort to drive the expansion of apprenticeship in California, College of the Canyons has formed a partnership with Goodwill Southern California to form the “Strong Workforce Apprenticeship Group,” aka SWAG.
To mark SWAG’s launch, reps from COC and Goodwill Southern California will stage a signing ceremony at COC’s University Center in Room 258 on Friday, August 4, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
SWAG will provide COC students and employees of participating companies skilled training and hands-on experience through apprenticeships at various local businesses. COC will provide specific instruction to SWAG apprentices that aligns with the needs of SWAG employers.
Scheduled to be in attendance at the signing ceremony are representatives from the Division of Apprenticeship Standards, the U.S. Department of Labor, the president and CEO of Airbolt Industries and the president and CEO of the Santa Clarita Valley Economic Development Corporation, along with executives from COC and Goodwill Southern California.
SWAG is a part of “Doing What Matters for Jobs and the Economy,” a statewide program that invests more than $200 million dollars annually into career education among the California’s 114 community colleges.
To RSVP, email Jeffrey.Forrest@canyons.edu. The Dr. Dianne G. Van Hook University Center is located on COC’s Valencia campus at 26455 Rockwell Canyon Road, Santa Clarita 91355.
