College of the Canyons women’s golfer Ashley Windsor has been named the 2014 recipient of the California Community College Counselors/Advisors Academic Association’s (3C4A) Student-Athlete Achievement Award.
The award honors a student-athlete who has overcome great personal, academic and/or emotional odds to achieve success while participating in intercollegiate athletics. The winner is chosen not for athletic or academic performance, but for demonstrating perseverance and making significant personal strides towards success.
“Ashley’s adventure has been positive and challenging since 2006,” COC head women’s golf coach Gary Peterson said. “She is a great example of the human spirit. She set goals, fell short and then set them again, and she reached them. I’m very proud of what she has accomplished and it has been an honor coaching her.”
Windsor was a member of the 2007 state championship women’s golf team as a freshman. She did not play for six years, before joining the squad again for the 2013 season. Windsor led team with an 84.7 strokes per round and was Canyons’ low scorer in four tournaments. She was named first-team all-conference following her performance this season and will be moving on to the University of Charleston in West Virginia next year.
Windsor will receive her award April 2 during the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) 17th Annual Convention Luncheon at the Renaissance Los Angeles Airport.
