The College of the Canyons Art Gallery will present the 20th Annual Student Art Exhibition highlighting a diverse range of work created by the college’s talented student artists.
The 20th Annual COC Student Art Exhibition will run from Tuesday, April 26, through Tuesday, May 24. An artist’s reception will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on April 26.
The works on display include drawing, photography, painting, sculpture, graphic design, animation and 2D & 3D design.
The annual showcase exhibition also acts as an educational and professional experience for students. Works are submitted for review and a guest juror selected from the greater Los Angeles arts community traditionally curates the Student Art Exhibition.
Some works then become part of a permanent visual art collection, spanning all disciplines, which is displayed at the college’s Valencia and Canyon Country campuses.
This year’s juror is Los Angeles artist, Edward Flynn. Flynn is a graduate of Chouinard Art Institute (Cal Arts) and the Rhode Island School of Design. Working with a vast array of materials, Flynn creates extravagant paintings that serve as maps or aerial views of personal journeys. His work can be found in many public and private collections.
College of the Canyons Art Gallery director Larry Hurst says the Student Art Exhibition is a perfect time for the campus and community to celebrate the artistic gifts and talents of COC art students.
“I am always pleasantly surprised by the high level of creativity displayed by our students This will no doubt be a terrific exhibition,” said Hurst.
“This annual showcase event is a great way for us to recognize, and celebrate, our student’s success as the academic year draws to a close, while also inviting the community in to see firsthand the work of our talented students,” added Hurst.
The COC Art Gallery is open on Monday’s from 11 a.m. to 4 pm. and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday. Those unable to visit the gallery during normal hours are welcome to call (661) 362-3612 to schedule a viewing appointment. All gallery exhibitions and related events are free and open to the public.
