The College of the Canyons women’s soccer team will host San Diego Mesa College at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, in the team’s 2015 home opener.
Winners of four straight Western State Conference (WSC), South Championships, head coach Justin Lundin and the Cougars enter the contest with a record of 1-0-1.
Canyons began its season with a pair of games at the Nike Soccer Community College Classic tournament hosted by Ventura College.
The Cougars first battled to a 1-1 tie with Rio Hondo College on Aug. 28, before finding their rhythm in a 4-0 defeat of Long Beach City College (LBCC) the following day.
In the game against LBCC, sophomore forward and reigning WSC Player of the Year Marissa Kneisel netted a pair of goals, and assisted on another, to help lead Canyons to the win. Her six points on the season lead the Cougars.
Freshman Hannah Hoskins and sophomore Natalie Mitchell also scored goals for the Cougars in that contest.
San Diego Mesa (0-4) is still looking for its first win of the season. The Olympians also appeared at the Nike Soccer Community College Classic, where they dropped games to Rio Hondo and Evergreen Valley College.
Those losses were followed by defeats at the hands of Santa Barbara City College (SBCC) and L.A. Valley College.
After its game vs. San Diego Mesa, the Cougars will hit the road for back-to-back road contests. COC will travel to SBCC on Sept. 18, and then face Moorpark on Tuesday, Sept. 22.
Canyons returns home at 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25, to host Mt. SAC.
