The College of the Canyons women’s soccer program begins its quest for a seventh consecutive conference championship when the Cougars host Ventura College in the 2017 season opener Monday night.
Canyons finished in the conference’s top spot for a sixth straight season in 2016 after posting an overall record of 12-4-4 and 6-0-2 mark vs. conference opponents. Head coach Justin LUndin and the Cougars will now look to build on that success heading into the new season.
COC sophomore defender Hailey Phipps, who was named the Western State Conference, East Division Player of the Year as freshman, leads a young roster that includes just five second-year players.
Also returning for Canyons are forward Emily Aguilar, defender Justine Hoeft, midfielder Angel Quintero and goalkeeper Jordan Burrow.
Quintero was an All-WSC First-Team selection last season, while Hoeft earned Second-Team honors.
After Monday’s season opener COC hits the road for its next five matches. The Cougars are scheduled to face Long Beach City College on Thursday, Aug. 31, and Evergreen Valley College on Saturday, Sept. 2, as part of the annual Nike Soccer Community College Showcase hosted by Ventura.
COC returns home for the second of 10 home dates on Tuesday, Sept. 19, for a 7:30 p.m. match vs. L.A. Valley College. A full season schedule can be found here.
