The College of the Canyons Foundation and Alumni Network inducted eight new members into the COC Alumni Hall of Fame at its annual induction ceremony and dinner on Thursday, April 25, at the Dr. Dianne G. Van Hook University Center.
Chancellor Dr. Dianne G. Van Hook established the Alumni Hall of Fame at College of the Canyons in 1999 to recognize and honor alumni who have made outstanding professional achievements and to acknowledge the role of community colleges.
The 2019 College of the Canyons Alumni Hall of Fame inductees are:
* Christine Lopez, Class of 2010 – (Rising Star) Gemologist and Ethically Produced Jewelry Designer
* Jason d’Autremont, Class of 2000 – (Outstanding Educator) Principal, William S. Hart High School
* John Garzon, Class of 2011 — Finance Attorney
* Halie Cook, Class of 2013 — Photojournalist, KNBC
* Amanda Bock, Class of 2014 — Athletic Trainer, Nova Southeastern University
* William Harwood, Class of 2013 — Mechanical Engineer
* Thomas Iland, Class of 2005 – Autism Advocate, Author and Motivational Speaker
* Jamie LeRoy, Class of 2012 — Public Policy & Human Rights Advocate
“The true mark of our effectiveness as a college is the success of our students as hard-working, ethical, focused members of the community,” Van Hook said. “The achievements and character of each of these inductees, along with our past inductees, are a demonstration of the impact of education as a life-changing process. We are so proud that these individuals were our students and look forward to seeing their successes and joys as the years go on. They are our future.”
The Rising Star Award is given to an alumnus who has graduated within the last 15 years and shows outstanding growth in their chosen profession.
Introduced this year, the Outstanding Educator Award is given to an alumnus who has made a significant contribution within the field of education.
The mission of the College of the Canyons Alumni Network is to create lifelong connections among alumni and provide opportunities to increase awareness, pride, participation, involvement and commitment to the college.
All College of the Canyons Alumni are invited to register with the COC Alumni Network.
