Santa Clarita is a great place to enjoy a high quality of life. Our city works hard to make sure our community enjoys a safe, clean environment with plenty of excellent events and activities for everyone.
In August, the city is hosting the Youth Sports and Healthy Families Festival. It will be held Saturday, Aug. 20, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Sports Complex, 20880 Centre Pointe Parkway.
The Youth Sports and Healthy Families Festival offers more than 20 exciting activities throughout the city Sports Complex’s 22 acres of facilities including the Aquatic Center, Skate Park, Gymnasium sand volleyball courts, basketball courts and fields. Attendees are also encouraged to bring their swimsuits to participate in cool aquatic activities including snorkeling, stand-up paddle boarding, kayaking and inner-tube water polo.
A healthy eating activity, raffle prizes and local vendors help make this one of our most popular events for families. If you’re interested in making healthier eating choices, looking for easy ways to stay active or want to explore a new youth sports activity, I invite you to check out the free Youth Sports and Healthy Families Festival. To view the full event lineup and a map of the day’s activities, visit santa-clarita.com/youthsportsfestival.
Also in August, the city and its community partners are hosting a special “Teens Talk Drugs” symposium. On Wednesday, Aug. 24, teens and parents are invited to attend the city’s annual hard-hitting drug awareness program.
Beginning at 6 p.m., attendees can explore the informational and educational Resource Fair. In addition to the Resource Fair, interested attendees can take part in an interactive demonstration with impairment goggles. These goggles simulate the difficulties of performing simple tasks while under the influence. At 6:30 p.m., the discussion panel will begin as three youths share their experience with drugs and how drugs have affected their life and the lives around them.
I hope you find these events informational. Should you have any questions or comments, please feel free to email me at bkellar@santa-clarita.com.
Bob Kellar is mayor of the city of Santa Clarita.
