Two Lancaster residents died after their vehicle rolled over on the Via Princessa offramp from Highway 14 in Canyon Country early Sunday morning, according to California Highway Patrol officials.
“On April 1, at approximately 00:34 hours (12:34 a.m.), a grey GMC Envoy was traveling northbound on State Road 14 at a high rate of speed,” said Officer Eric Stevenson of the CHP’s Newhall office.
“The GMC collided with the guardrail on the right shoulder south of Via Princessa,” he said. “The vehicle subsequently overturned down the Via Princessa offramp, at which time the driver and the occupant were ejected onto the highway.”
Both parties were pronounced deceased at the scene at 12:47 a.m.
The victims were Johnnie Mitchell, male, 48, and Tiesha Deshawn Shepherd, female, 37, both of Lancaster, Los Angeles County Coroner’s office spokesman Ed Winter told SCVNews.com Monday morning.
Autopsies are pending, and should be completed today or tomorrow, Winter said.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, Stevenson said.
