The College of the Canyons baseball team came to the ballpark ready to hit on Tuesday, with the Cougars pounding out 17 hits en route to a dominating 19-2 win over visiting Cerro Coso College.
Equally impressive was the effort of the Cougars pitching staff, allowing just two runs — none after the third inning.
Starter Jesse Posey earned the win to remain undefeated at 3-0 on the year. The sophomore scattered eight hits and struck out five in 5 and 2/3 innings of work Tuesday.
At the plate, shortstop Jose Haros was at it again finishing the game 5-for-6 with four runs, and three RBI.
The sophomore recorded three doubles, a triple and a single, coming within a home run of hitting for the cycle — a feat already accomplished back on Feb. 5 vs. Allan Hancock.
In fact, four Cougars recorded multi-hit games on Tuesday.
COC right fielder Roy Verdejo was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and a game-high six RBIs to continue his season-opening tear.
Canyons third baseman Dylan Freyre finished 2-for-4 with a home run, three RBIs and two walks, while COC first baseman Chris Devery and center fielder Tyler Ryan also both hit home runs.
The Cougars will try and keep the bats warm as they head toward a two-game series with Orange Coast College.
