This is a very sad, completely preventable death of a child. That intersection is notoriously bad with regard to persons running that light. It would seem people simply can’t wait for the lights to cycle through again so they can safely make their turn.

Hi Branden, I am Francene’s friend. Strange to see your name here. We live in a small community really. I have been wondering which gym they are referring to… I have a feeling you are a bit “haunted” by his image in your memory. Teach little Braelyn well.
This is definitely not the first time that this has happened and it certainly won’t be the last time. Too many people in Santa Clarita drive like a bunch of jackasses. Nobody watches what they’re doing everybody goes over the speed limit like there in a hurry to get somewhere. I remember 25 years ago a student name Josh Fullbright was hit by a SUV on Seco Canyon Road but to be fair both were at fault although two wrongs don’t make a right. On that day I was walking my dog on Seco Canyon Joshua Fullbright wasn’t watching what he was doing he was just running across the street like a speeding bullet then he got hit the lady was at fault because she was going over the speed limit. People please watch what you’re doing. Sad to say that this young man lived in my neighborhood. I just feel so bad for his family that they have to deal with this.
I was one of the kids walking with josh on that day. This is a constant reminder of what happened on that day. Btw. The driver of the car that hit Josh was blinded by the sun and didnt see Josh. Tragic accident for both families. This year marks 25 years.

Completely agree! I’m originally from Massachusetts and was/continue to be shocked at the driving out here. Speed limits mean nothing! Back home there are cops hiding everywhere so people actually drive the speed limit. As a pedestrian out here there have been multiple times where cars rush right in front of me so they don’t have to stop and wait!

Ever since the day my nephew started to walk whenever I had to cross the street with him I always talk to him and to this day I always make sure he look both ways I trained him to look to the right and to the left and then I say all clear and as he got older he got into that have it very well. Not that I’m saying that this will ever stop a tragedy like this to happen again but it will reduce the chances of it happening. As far as i’m concern no child is too young enough to learn look to your right and look to your left before crossing the street even if you’re holding their hands get him into that habit. My sister was not to king with that idea and now she’s glad I did.

My heart breaks for this family. He was on my sons football team. There are so many intersections in scv that need to be re-evaluated as well as speed limits. I was the car behind the motorcyclist killed at Sierra hwy and San canyon a month or so ago. Chp need to be on Sierra hwy daily. Impatient crazy drivers passing speeding texting etcc it’s disgusting the no concern for others on that road as well as others.

I have seen so many comments assuming certain things..the investigation is just starting. What I do know is that a child is gone and so many lives have changed in a blink of an eye..including the driver. I think it’s safe to assume though that this was not a callous intentional act. Accidents happen and this is truly heartbreaking.

They don’t seem to go where the real problems are in this valley. They just wait until they are asked to respond after the fact.

Summer vacation is such a dangerous time for kids. We lost two kids from our school district this summer from accidents.
My Gentle Giant WAS in the sidewalk. We have been overwhelmed with the outpouring and love for our child. He was beautiful inside and out and anyone who ever met him and had the privilege to know him is better off for it. Even teachers, kids, community members, neighbors ALL loved him and we were so honored and incredibly privileged to have had him for those almost 15 years,
I’m in tears right now for you. I drove by after the accident and now that I see the sweet boy that is gone from this earth ..it makes me think…it could have been one of my own. Maybe you need to reflect on your own driving. Yellow slow down, red is stop. Turn right on a red, stop and look for anyone crossing in the Cross walk and do not speed.
14 year old don’t always think but adult licensed drivers should…. Always.

This is so sad for everyone involved i will be praying for peace in the hearts of the family and friends of this boy nothing harder to deal with then losing a child, RIP Wyatt.

For all of you people who have left kind words you will never truly know what they mean to the family of a lost child. For the rest who make stupid and insensitive statement such as the first one by Stephen who by the way also made a very stupid comment on a story written about the loss of my 17 year old son, which this site had the intelligence to delete, the rest of you should be ashamed of your selves. No one can possible understand the depth of the loss of a beautiful child with so much potential unless they are living it and there is no room what’s so ever for your comments. To Wyatt and his family I am so deeply sorry for your endless longing to be together. Please know you will always have your beautiful son with you in your body, mind and soul. Be grateful knowing he knows how much you love him and find your strength to continue on with acts of kindness to honor that beautiful smile.

My heart is heavy for this family. What a charming and sweet looking young man RIL. I pray God heals their pain and comforts and a strengthens them. I hope his death can bring about a change in the way the signal lights turn for pedestrians.

I heard the driver was an elderly man and his vehicle displayed a handicapped placard. I think the driving abilities of elderly folks and anyone with any type impairment or handcicap should be tested more often. What a tragedy! My heart goes out to the family. What a beautiful boy.
Thank you for the kind words posted here about our son Wyatt. He was a beautiful son, inside and out. He was taught early in life to use crosswalks. Initial reports have our son in the crosswalk with the green light to walk and so he did. It it is reported that the driver ran right through the red light. He was being responsible. We appreciate all of your kind words but if you have nothing nice to say please try to keep those thoughts to yourself. Wyatt has two older siblings and this is such a painful and unbelievably difficult reality to face and accept at this time. There are no words to express the pain we are going through, it is and feels unreal to me, it has not sunken in, for my heart cannot quite deal with this reality. I’m still waiting to wake up from an awful, awful dream. My mind tells me one thing but my heart cannot take the pain. Please hug those you love as often as you can. Wyatt and I exchanged “I love you’s” just before he left for the gym. As we all tell each other before one family member goes out, we love you and be safe, be careful and so far it seems that our 14 year old son was doing just that and still he is not here with us. It’s easier to write about him in a matter of a fact way right now because I am unable to come to terms with his loss just yet.
