Northridge, CA – The CSUN Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced a major gift of $250,000 to the Sports Medicine department. The donation will help fund a satellite athletic training facility that will service the healthcare needs of CSUN’s outdoor sports.
“Expanding the services and capabilities of our Athletic Training staff is an important step towards comprehensive excellence for our athletics programs,” said Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Dr. Brandon Martin. “Student-athlete well-being is our top priority and the satellite athletic training facility will make sure our student-athletes continue to feel comfortable and confident that they’re receiving the best possible care, no matter where they are. Our sports medicine department, led by Steve Grech, is excellent and this gift will allow him and his staff to excel even more.”
The satellite facility is scheduled to be operational by fall of 2016. In addition to the new facility, the donation will also fund equipment including ultrasound/neuromuscular stimulation combo units, pneumatic compression devices, treatment tables and rehabilitation equipment.
“Through this investment we will expand the reach of our athletic training services and improve student-athletes’ access to more efficient medical care, not only now but for years to come,” said Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine/Head Athletic Trainer Steve Grech. “I’m incredibly grateful to the donor for supporting the mission of CSUN Sports Medicine. She understands that donating to our department is a way to positively affect every student-athlete at CSUN both on and off the field of play.”
The donor is a faithful supporter of CSUN Athletics who recognizes the importance of CSUN’s Sports Medicine department and that it affects student-athletes’ physical injuries and training as well as their emotional well being. Last spring, the same donor gave a major gift to Sports Medicine to purchase an AlterG anti-gravity treadmill, and she has supported other sports medicine needs in the past.
